From all points west of Riverhead Long Island, take the Long Island Expressway (I 495) east to Exit 73 (the last exit). Custer is another 19 miles east. Take RT 58 east for about 4 miles to the Traffic Circle. Continue straight out the other side. Road becomes RT 25 East. Continue for another 15 miles. Take your time, the local Police are very aggressive about speeding tickets. As you enter the Village of Southold, you will see signs for the Custer Institute and the Indian Museum on your right, just before an Empire Gas Station on your right as you are makeing a gradual left turn. Make a Very Sharp Right turn immediately after the EMPIRE Gas Station (roads form a ‘Y’) onto Main Bayview Road. You will see our brick buildings with the white dome on top, about 0.22 miles ahead on the left side of the road. The Indian Museum is directly across the street on your right. Parking is on the street. Please do not block the driveway on the left side of Custer. If you get lost, call (631) 765-2626.

The Indian Museum is directly across the street and is also well worth visiting. It has a very extensive collection of artifacts. It is usually only open on Sundays from 1 to 4 PM during the Fall through Spring seasons. It is open Saturdays and Sundays from 1 to 4 PM during the Summer.
